Azerai Can Tho

Azerai’s second affordable luxury property is now open in Can Tho, in Vietnam’s lush Mekong Delta, where Aman-founder Adrian Zecha has created a unique oasis of calm in this culturally fascinating destination. Azerai in Can Tho is the perfect base from which to explore Vietnam’s Mekong Delta and the bustling waterside city of Can Tho, well-known for its floating markets.

Built on its own private 8 acre islet surrounded by waterways and mangroves, Azerai in Can Tho offers a unique full-service island resort experience, with a choice of river, lake or garden view rooms and pavilions integrated into the island’s lush, tropical landscape featuring banyan trees, mangroves, local palms and jasmine galore.

Access is by boat from Azerai’s private Arrival Pavilion in Can Tho and within 10 minutes you will arrive at the resort. A 32 metre swimming pool is the focal point of the courtyard area, around which the restaurants, café and lounge & bar are located, with the spa, boutique, gym, tennis courts and children’s playground laid out amongst the banyan trees.

The resort’s 60 rooms follow the natural shoreline, each offering a generous 35 square meters of accommodation, with soaring ceilings, spacious shower and dressing areas and outdoor terraces with comfortable loungers. In true Azerai-style, interiors are flooded with light and the interior design makes excellent use of traditional materials, such as bamboo, rattan and local hardwoods.

Can Tho is Vietnam’s fourth largest city and lies at the heart of the Mekong Delta. The city is famed for its scenic floating markets where each day traditional wooden fruit, vegetables and fresh fish houseboats and sampans gather to trade rice, fruit, vegetables and fresh fish. This is a must-see experience for those wanting to explore southern Vietnam and its centuries-old river culture.

Azerai’s concierge will arrange all sorts of water-borne activities, from sunrise and sunset cruises, to excursions on sanpans to explore the Mekong Delta, known locally as ‘Cuu Long’, or ‘Nine Dragons, which refers to the nine tributaries of the Mekong which fan out to create the Delta. On land, walking tours of street food markets in Can Tho is another must.

Introductory opening rates start at $250 per night, proof that Azerai’s compelling ‘affordable luxury’ proposition, founded at Azerai in Luang Prabang, is in touch with the needs of today’s adventurous travellers.

Our travel editor, Sophie Marchant will be visiting Azerai Can Tho soon.
