Perched above the shoreline of magical Lake Como, Villa di Torno offers stunning lake views from every room. Recently restored to the finest standards, this luxury villa seamlessly marries its perfect position with elegant simplicity. The light and airy rooms open out onto views of the beautiful lake and its stunning surroundings.
The magnificent piazza terrace directly overlooks the lake and offers ample room for a party of 16 to enjoy the life al fesco, with dining under a flowering jasmine pergola. When you fancy a swim, press a button and some of the paving descends to reveal an irresistible heated swimming pool, which can even be adjusted for depth – perfect for children. There are other sun-drenched terraces and a balcony with the views across the lake to the famous Villa D’Este hotel, surrounded by mountains and lush hillsides dotted with pretty villages. Being directly on the water, the gentle swell of the lake can be heard from every room.
Villa di Torno is perfect for larger gatherings, with 12 people easily accommodated in the villa and another 4 in the Mansarda. Bedrooms are beautifully appointed with antique furniture, fine paintings and exquisite fabrics and, of course, beds finished with the finest, softest cottons. An elevator provides accessibility for those that may need it within the villa.
The spacious state-of-the-art kitchen means there are never too many cooks in the kitchen, although we highly recommend utilising the many culinary gifts of the villa’s chef, Sergio, who specialises in typical local cuisine. If you feel like sneaking off for a quiet read or a game of chess, there is plenty of space to relax in the lovely conservatory, the Limonaia sitting room or the first floor winter drawing room.
BEYOND THE VILLA
If you can actually pull yourself away from Villa di Torno, there are various options for getting about. On foot you can explore the quiet streets of Torno village, with its weekly market stalls, local bars and greengrocer with no traffic allowed into the lower reaches of the village. But to make the best use of your dramatic location, a skippered Venetian taxi charter is a must. Riccardo will meet you at your villa’s dock, and then the lake is yours; for shopping in Bellagio, for spying on your neighbours in the famous villas around the lake, or for a romantic dinner for two in Tremezzo or Villa d’Este.
In addition to your chauffeur-on-the-water, Riccardo, Villa di Torno is kept at its best by a group of cheerful and helpful staff. Antonia and her team live but a stone’s throw away and she is happy to accommodate your needs with easy flexibility. Should you want to indulge in some truly memorable meals, chef Sergio can be on hand to ensure that they are extra special.
Villa di Torno epitomises the Lake Como lifestyle with its perfect position, elegant architecture and simple classical aesthetic, all nestled into the shoreline so you can make the most of the mesmerising views and dancing light on this oh-so-beautiful lake.
