5-star hotel guide to Agra

Although it is has come an immortal image of India, the Taj Mahal is only a small part of Agra.

The Taj Mahal draws millions to Agra every year, and it never fails to impress. Built to symbolise the love of Emperor Shah Jahan for his favourite wife, this eternal resting place has become the icon that many associate with India. Standing at nearly 250ft, this UNESCO World Heritage site is certainly an impressive and awesome structure, it is part of a 42-acre estate of formal gardens, a guest house and mosque.

Agra sits in the middle of the Golden Triangle of India, a well-trodden tourist trail that includes Jaipur to the west and New Delhi to the north. Steeped in its Mughal imperial history, Agra boasts a further two UNESCO World Heritage sites; Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri, both of which are as impressive as the Taj Mahal, with written histories dating back to the 17th century.

The place to stay in this historic city is the Oberoi Amarvilas. In an unrivalled position a few hundred metres away from the Taj Mahal, the Amarvilas offers an uninterupted view of this landmark in the comfort and luxury of the Oberoi group.
