Cheyne Walk, Chelsea

Waking up to a Chelsea morning overlooking the river is a special pleasure, and one repeated each day you stay at Cheyne Walk, Chelsea, our favourite private piéd à terre London apartment.

This stylish riverside apartment is on the first floor of a handsome Victorian Italianate stucco fronted house, bearing a Blue Plaque in recognition of it once being the home of Sylvia Pankhurst, known for her leading role in the universal suffrage movement. It is next door to the house where Britain’s most famous artist, JMW Turner, made home, and close to many others of historical importance along Cheyne Walk, spanning the SW3 and SW10 postcodes. This 'baby grand' luxury apartment offers privacy, convenience and everything you might want for a short, or longer, stay in the heart of London.

For us, nothing beats a river view of ‘Old Father Thames', its bridges, houseboats and bustling river life. Here you have an immersive experience of classic and contemporary, with Battersea and Albert bridges in the background and Sir Norman Foster’s Albion Riverside and Richard Rogers’ Montevetro providing stunning architectural bookends to the 180º river vista.

The apartment offers a double bedroom and en-suite bathroom with jacuzzi tub, a separate loo and wet room, and a spacious, high ceilinged living room with open plan kitchen furnished with Herman Miller Eames chairs and sofa, all in tan leather. A polished wooden floor, huge antique overmantle mirror, chandeliers and 19th century gilded console reference Cheyne Walk's architectural heritage, while a sleek kitchen unit with plenty of storage space add practicality and a modernist counterpoint. If you can take your eyes off the river view through the generous bay window, large scale original oil artworks are by the owner, including two Forgotten Beauties, an artistic collaboration that draws attention to the importance of insects in our changing world.

With a minimum rental of 6 nights, this fully serviced luxury apartment is a stylish and practical alternative to a London 5-star hotel.

A pure Chelsea experience

The Kings Road at World’s End is a two minute walk from the front door, and its original black and white tiled entrance. There has always been something very special about Chelsea and the Kings Road, in particular, where you will find hundreds of London’s finest shops, many excellent restaurants, the Everyman cinema and the Saatchi Gallery, to name just a few points of interest within a ten minute stroll.

Exercise is easy, as Chelsea Embankment is literally on your doorstep and its wide pavement is a London favourite for a jog or a brisk river walk. Cross Albert Bridge - a beautiful Victorian suspension bridge that twinkles at night - and you'll find Battersea Park, where a run to the Peace Pagoda provides an enspiriting circuit.

When it comes to dining, quite literally within a four minute walk, there are three of our favourite London restaurants. Chicama is a Peruvian fish restaurant with outside dining in warmer months, where the pisco sours are the best in town; Medlar offers splendid modern English/French cuisine of impeccable quality, with a wine list to die for, and all at very reasonable prices; and La Famiglia is a legendary Tuscan trattoria which seems to have been going since Mary Quant started the ‘swinging sixties’ around here, but actually didn’t open until 1976. A five minute taxi ride will take you to Knightsbridge, a ten minute one to Mayfair. All this and the ever flowing river and bobbing houseboats, too!

For a short-stay luxury rental in central London, this unique private apartment offers so much more than a hotel room for an unforgettable stay in the Capital of capitals, at half the price of a 5-star deluxe double. With a minimum 3-night stay, Cheyne Walk, Chelsea should become your baby grand pied à terre in the heart of London. Contact our concierge for guaranteed best available rates and availability.
