5-star hotel guide to Indonesia

The islands of Bali, Lombok and Java are part of the Indonesian archipelago, a 5,200 km stretch of over  13,000 islands, stretching between Malaysia in the West and Australia in the East.

Bali has long been Indonesia's prime tourist spot, but there are several more equally worthy islands, including: lovely Lombok: exquisite Java, with its stupendous Bhuddist monument, Borobadur; tranquil Moyo Island; and beautiful Sumba.

We have cherry picked the choicest 5-star Balinese escapes, along with Lombok’s favourite, while Java brags perhaps Aman’s most astonishing resort, Amanjiwo, which means 'Peaceful Soul'. For the ultimate in exclusive ‘glamping’ splendour there is also a tented paradise on a tiny slice of tropical perfection on the Island of Moyo.

For a luxury villa experience, we think it would be hard to better Villa Sungai in Bali and if sailing and diving between the islands appeals, we have several options for private charters and small sailing cruises.

Our travel editors are currently in Indonesia reviewing Nihi on Sumba, Tugu Lombok and Katamama and Samaya in Bali. We have also been invited for a sneak preview of Bali's most exciting new resort, which we will be the first to review when it opens later in 2018.
