Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza The origin of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection goes back to the early 20th century, when the grandfather of the Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza started a small collection of art by acquiring various sculptures by Rodin. Since then the collection has grown into one of the most famous in the world. Just a stroll from the Hotel Ritz it is open every day, except Mondays, from 10:00 to 19:00. Centro de arte Moderno Reina Sofia. Opened in 1992 by King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía the Centre houses the Permanent Collection of the National Museum and contains the very best of Spain's modern art movement including Salvador Dali, amongst many others. El Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales Founded by the widowed Queen of Portugal in 1557 this convent of barefoot Franciscan nuns contains many rare treasures and one of the most beautiful squares in Madrid. The convent is open from Mondays to Fridays from 10.30 to 12.30.

Teatro de la Zarzuela Inaugurated in 1856, the Teatro de la Zarzuela is the home of Spanish musical comedy, part sung, part spoken, these performances embrace the full colour and range of Spanish life on stage. Real Jardín Botánico Located just a short stroll from the Hotel Ritz is the Royal Botanical Gardens, founded in the 18th century, the garden contains more than 104 species of trees and 3,000 types of plants. Also on the premises are an exhibition hall and a library specializing in botany. The park is open daily from 10:00 to 19:30.
