The Banya or bathhouse is a popular Russian tradition. It involves steam, high heat, cold and an invigorating beating with birch leaves and branches, which provides the perfect massage to complement the healthful and recreational effects of the humidity of the banya.
This unique tradition is an integral part of an introduction to Russian culture. A tour of Catherine’s Palace and tea-drinking with vatrushkas, near a steaming samovar, completes a truly Russian vacation with the Grand Hotel Europe.
