South African residents offered special getaway package to Botswana's unforgettable camps of Orient-Express Safaris
01 August 2005

Nestled on the edge of a leadwood and fig tree forest, with unobstructed views of the vast Khwai River floodplains and beyond into the Moremi Game Reserve, sits the luxurious Khwai River Lodge, which offers superb game viewing all year round and is a special location for predators.

Hidden from the world, deep within Botswana’s Okavango Delta, is the paradise called Eagle Island Camp. Situated on the island of Xaxaba and surrounded by illala palms, the camp overlooks a surrounding lagoon fed by the tranquil waterways of the Delta. The area offers exceptionally high quality wildlife viewing with prolific bird life and mammal sightings.

In the heart of the Chobe National Park, sometimes referred to as the elephant capital of the world, is Savute Elephant Camp. Perched on the current banks of the former river banks of the now dry Savute channel, the camp offers a spectacular bird’s-eye view of elephant in their natural habitat. The endangered wild dog, lion, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, cheetah and hyena are also to be found at Savute. Find yourself in harmony with a unique timeless place as you witness a play that has no script, by actors who have no lines, in an environment that needs no set.

Each camp boasts local guides who are well-trained in specialist guiding in the area. On game drives guests are encouraged to participate in tracking a swift predator or to follow the path of the enormous elephant. Guests learn, merely from footprints in the sand, how to identify an animal, its gender, size and age.

Recently appointed Executive Chef – James van Biljon masterfully prepares delectable meals from dawn to dusk. Candlelit dinners are under a blanket of stars in the main dining area or guests have the option to enjoy private dining in the Bird Hide at Khwai River Lodge, or a very romantic dinner at the Fish Eagle Bar at Eagle Island Camp (named one of the most romantic bars in the world by The New York Times). Guests at Savute Elephant Camp may have the opportunity to enjoy an indigenous Botswana dining experience in a traditional boma. For those looking preferring utter privacy and intimacy, guests may also choose to dine on the veranda of their tent.

Orient-Express Safaris is offering South African residents special packages to all camps for the period November 01 2005 to March 31 2006.  Priced from R6670.00 per person for three nights the package includes all inter camp flights to/from Maun, all scheduled game activities, all meals, soft drinks, beer and house wines, park fees, all taxes and medical evacuation insurance. Local airport departure tax of R68.00 per person is the only local item excluded. Maun can be accessed by direct flights from Cape Town and Johannesburg via Air Botswana and bookings can be easily arranged through Orient Express' reservations offices in Johannesburg & Cape Town.
