Venice has very distinct seasons which offer unique appeal to visitors throughout the year.
Temperatures will range from 30°C (80°F) in summer, when the lagoon cools the city and the lagoon sparkles. Through to the mild mists of Autumn when the canals and streets take on a special atmosphere. To near freezing in January, when snow may fall and the city hibernates, awaiting Carnival and the coming of Spring when the city bursts in to life.

Acqua alta (High tides)
Generally Venice only has Acqua Alta in Autumn and Winter when some streets and squares flood. The city is well prepared with pedestrian routes equipped with special footbridges to avoid the high water and to reach the main parts of Venice.
A 48 hour tidal forecast is supplied by the city of Venice authorities and shows the expected levels of the high tide each day.
Less than 80 cms is a normal tide with no flooding. A tide above 100 cms will cause minor flooding, whilst tides above 120 cms will begin to cause extensive flooding.
