Hotel Monasterio nominated 'Best Hotel in South America'

Election held for the Conde Nast Traveler Magazine Award
The Monasterio Hotel, Cuzco (Cusco), has been recognized by the Conde Naste Traveler magazine, in accordance with the votation of its readers, for its “2005 Readers Choice Award’. The Hotel was chosen as the “Best Hotel in South America” ahead of such well known hotels as the Four Seasons and Alvear Palace of Buenos Aires and the Ritz Carlton of Santiago, amongst others.
The Conde Nast Traveler Magazine is a renown source for information regarding travel, hotels, resorts, restaurants and entertainment and its contents constitute a sophisticated aid for people who travel frecuently.
The concession for the Hotel Monasterio is held by Perú Hotel S.A. and Orient-Express Hotels, Trains & Cruises and managed by Orient-Express Hotels, Trains & Cruises. The Hotel Monasterio was built in the XVI century on the site previously occupied by the palace of Inka Amaru Qhala as the Seminary of San Antonio Abad. The four original cloisters surround a garden in the centre of which a beautiful and imposing 300 year old cedar tree stands, and conserve their characteristic historic structure. The magnificent boróque style of the Chapel of San Antonio Abad remains as part of the Hotel and has been restored, to return it to its original glory. The chapel is considered as one of the most beautiful and important sights in the City of Cuzco (Cusco) and in addition to housing a collection of paintings from the Cusquenian School of Painting, continues to function actively for religious services, Masses and weddings.
In addition to this recognition, the readers of Conde Nast Traveler have also mentioned the Machu Pichu Sanctuary Lodge, giving Peru two establishments among the ‘Top Ten’ of South America.
