The Fascinating World of Beekeeping and Honey - Friday 19th September

The fascinating world of beekeeping and honey, with Dr Ivor Davis, Master Beekeeper and past president of the British Beekeepers’ Association.

Honey bees play a vital role in our environment. Without bees there would be no flowering crops. Today 60% of our food plants depend on bees, especially tree fruit, soft fruit, salad crops, beans and pears. No bees – no healthy diet. And honey too is one of nature’s healthiest foods, which can be used in every meal of the day.

Beekeeping can affect so many aspects of our lives. It brings together those interested in the well-being of the countryside, gardening and education, food and cooking, and ancient craft skills as well as scientific work.

Watching honey bees ’Apis mellifera’ work as a colony in the hive is an enjoyable and rewarding pastime to take up knowing too that you are making your own contribution to saving the environment. Honey bees’ economic contribution to UK agriculture and horticulture is believed to be nearly £1 billion a year at retail prices.

Join us to experience the fascinating world of beekeeping and honey as well as a wonderfully informative demonstration of cooking with honey by our Cookery School Tutor in the Raymond Blanc Cookery School. This will be followed by a Ruinart Champagne reception and a 3-course lunch with accompanying wines.
