exploring the city
Buddhism is an intrinsic part of daily life in Luang Prabang. Groups of learned and novice monks from ages eight to 80 are a spiritual part of everyday life in town.
Colourful local markets display an eclectic collection of richly-coloured textiles, housewares and jewellery alongside fresh fruits, local foods and crafts from sturdy iron work to delicate paper lanterns. Cafes line the banks of the Mekong and Khan Rivers, their shady perch a peaceful vantage point to witness the flow of boats, fishermen and daily river life.
Amantaka also offers cooking classes and bespoke tours of the city’s antique shops, galleries, museums and private collections.
