Overview

The estates of Ansedonia lie along a narrow winding road just off the Tuscan shore. Access is easy and swift from the highway linking Rome and Fiumicino Airport to Grosseto. A short drive of several minutes brings you to the freshly painted gate of Casa Vittoria, part of a small compound of family properties, each house designed for maximum privacy and comfort. You approach the house through a very pleasant shady garden sprinkled with plants typical of the area; ilex and cypress trees, hedges of rosemary and iris beds.

Casa Vittoria has been completely restructured for modern living. The owner's own extensive collection of Asian/African furniture and objects d'art is mixed effectively with Italian and other European antiques. Each piece is well chosen and each display effective. This home is full of comfortable, soft-edged spaces with an intimacy very much oriented to conversation, reading and relaxing away from the sun out of doors. The primary patio stretches off the north side of the house, connected by pathways to the kitchen and living room, to a juniper-shaded sitting area edged with a low wall in the rough stones of the region. A vibrant bougainvillea, blooming constantly from May through October, and marble bust catch the eye. Adjacent is a low table surrounded by oversized cushions and low Indian seats for lounging, a white cotton canopy spreads overhead. Opposite is a rectangular, marble dining table and adjacent loggia, with simple charcoal or wood grill for traditional Tuscan dishes. A pass through in the wall takes you up onto a lawn and the private pool (8 x 5 meters), set at the edge of the hill with a stunning view of Argentario and the island of Giannutri.

• - Welcome dinner included
• - Initial shopping available on request. All staff services at 11 Euros per hour, plus cost of consumables
