A Leonardo memory jog
For those of you who immediately think of di Caprio then blink several times and return to the C15th when a real star was born, named, Leonardo da Vinci. He was born a love child in 1452 to a fairly unknown mother and became an artist an inventor and a scientist. Adopted later by his childless father, his genius traits were recognised early, and his effect on those around him was so profound that his tutor, Verrochio, threw away his brushes when he realised that Leonardo was matchless. In 1482 he moved to Milan, staying in the court of the Duke, for an intense and happy 17 years.
He was a deeply intellectual man and had a very apocalyptic visionary explanation for matters of the soul. He believed, like many, that the eyes were the windows to the soul and the body was the conduit by which means the soul would be activated.
