Marrakech - The Red City

Marrakech is known as the red city because its pink-tinted buildings reflect the light like a rose quarts gem. Nestled near the panoramic snow capped Atlas Mountains, Marrakech appeals, quite literally, to all your senses. You are lost in a mecca of exotica. The smells of spice and mint, the richly decorated plastered walls, the natural brown bejmat flooring, the exquisite mosaics are all so hypnotic that you feel like you've fallen off the edge of the world and landed in a fantasy you don't want to escape from.

The fashion is so varied, and, of course, has bled its style into almost every designer in the western world. So why not get the real thing, at the real price, and, like Sienna Miller, put the Moorish Moroccan twist into your wardrobe? Imagine then, being transported into a mirrored image of all the very best of Marrakech - plus pampering, serene luxury? This happens at Amanjena.

One of our favourite Amanresorts is this haute couture property set outside the Medina in the lush area of Palmeralle. Upon landing, you are whisked away and within fifteen minutes you arrive at your very own nirvana. After walking through vast oak, hand carved, doors you are in a place you may never want to leave... If you do decide to eat out, try Bo and Zin - get chauffeured to one of the sexiest venues around, with live music and cocktails in an Asian garden www.bo-zin.com. Or dine in an early 19th century pavilion at Le Pavillon where lush foliage curtains a fountained courtyard and a chef who just happens to have two Michelin stars at his other restaurant in St.Tropez. If you're in the mood for dancing in your new hand embroidered Moroccan slippers, then head off for cocktails and outrageous dancing at Pacha Marrakech. This really is a shopping trip with a difference...
