| Magical Mallorca
The Balearic Island Mallorca is one of the most sociable and scenic islands in the Mediterranean. There are so many reasons for visiting this little haven but one that must not be overlooked is the shopping.
There is something truly intoxicating about Palma, Mallorca's capital. It is as exquisite as any small European city, and the seductive charm seeps out of every street and historic brick in its existence. Jaime 111 is the main shopping street, right in the centre of the city and has shops from Loewe to the eclectic and esoteric. The bars for pit stops are spot on, and in November there is still plenty of sunshine in which to show off the Chanels, while sipping sherry or enjoying an ensemada with a small espresso. However, for some of the best tapas perhaps in the world, the legendary La Bovida, otherwise referred to, as the "barrel bar" is unmissable. But booking is essential.
If it's the port scene you like then Porta Portals is perfect. It's chic, it's stylish, it's spotless and it buzzes. Even in November. Not far from Palma this luxury private yacht harbour has amazing shops from designer to marine classics and the food is excellent. Tristan has two well-deserved Michelin stars, Finnegan's has excellent local cuisine and Rizzi lives up to its name.
So where to stay? There is a beautiful finca in Puigpunyent, only seven kilometres from Palma that is a true oasis. This luxurious gem is Gran Hotel Son Net with 24 intensely delightful rooms, original art and a beautiful pool with private cabanas. The hotels décor, cuisine, amenities - are all finely tuned. You are perfectly situated here to enjoy so many of Mallorcas delights, and a market for many is a must. Thus, the perfect Sunday excursion would be a trip to Castillo de Alaro, nestled in lush mountain greenery and known primarily to local gastronomes. The classic dish, suckling pig, is cooked in a wood-burning stove, and the mouth-watering aromas waft out into the crisp mountain air. On route to this wonderful family run eatery, you can stop off at Consell - famous for its flea market - and acquire all sorts of little treats, from stocking fillers to purchases of a slightly more serious nature. There is more, so much more to do on this Island, so click here for availability and advice to book a break away with sun, sea, luxurious accommodation at Son Net and great shopping.
